Pineapple is a tropical fruit with spiky skin, fibrous core, and sweet-tart yellow flesh, eaten fresh, grilled, or blended into drinks. It provides water and vitamin C with natural sugars and acidity. Fresh ripe flesh is softer and easier to portion than core pieces.
Pineapple is sold whole, pre-cut, canned, dried, and juiced. Canned fruit in syrup and dried pineapple are much more sugar-concentrated than fresh chunks. Sweetened juices and desserts add even more sugar.
Rind and core are too tough for pets and can cause chewing or swallowing problems. Large fruit portions may upset digestion in sensitive animals. Small plain ripe pieces are the lowest-risk form.
Grilled pineapple and fruit toppings on savory dishes may include sugar, salt, or spicy glazes that are less pet-friendly than plain fresh fruit.
For pets, offer only tiny ripe plain flesh portions and avoid rind, core, syrup-packed, and dried sweetened pineapple products.
