Can pets eat Rambutan?

Rambutan is a tropical fruit with a red spiny-looking rind and translucent sweet flesh around a large seed. It is sold fresh in clusters and also in canned or syrup-packed forms in specialty markets. The edible flesh is moist but naturally sugary. Fresh rambutan prep requires peeling the rind and removing the seed before serving. Canned versions often include syrup or sweetened liquid and are more concentrated than plain fruit. These products are less suitable for pets. Seed and rind are not appropriate for pets and can create choking or obstruction risk. Large fruit portions may upset sensitive digestion because of sugar load. Tiny plain pieces are easier to tolerate. For pets, if offered at all, use only small pieces of ripe peeled seedless flesh and avoid canned sweetened rambutan products.
