Rice is a starchy grain eaten boiled or steamed and sold as white, brown, jasmine, basmati, and specialty varieties. It is used in home cooking, takeout dishes, soups, and grain bowls. Plain cooked rice provides carbohydrates with mild flavor.
White rice is softer and lower in fiber, while brown rice is chewier and higher in fiber. Both are commonly mixed with sauces, broths, oils, and seasonings in human meals. These additions can change pet tolerance more than rice itself.
For pets, plain fully cooked rice can be used in small amounts, especially when a bland-texture add-on is needed. It is not a complete diet and should not replace balanced nutrition. Portion size should stay modest.
Avoid seasoned rice dishes, fried rice, and rice mixed with alliums such as onion or garlic.
